Prepping Your File for Print / Uploading Your Artwork
Prepping Your File for Print / Uploading Your Artwork
Properly preparing your artwork ensures the best possible print quality. Follow these guidelines to make your file print-ready:
1. Image Format
- CMYK format is preferred for most designs.
- Both vector (e.g., SVG, EPS, PDF) and raster (e.g., PNG, JPG, TIFF) images are accepted.
2. Resolution
- For the best print quality, ensure your image is high resolution. We recommend a minimum of 300 DPI (dots per inch).
- Not sure about the quality? Double-click on your image or zoom in. If it looks blurry or pixelated, it will likely print that way.
- If your image needs improvement, we offer an image vectorization service to clean up and sharpen graphics.
- Cost: Additional fee (free for orders of 50 pieces or more).
3. Backgrounds
- If you do not want a background included in your design, make sure to remove it before uploading. For best results, upload a file with transparency (e.g., PNG).
- Need help removing the background? We can do this for you at no additional cost, depending on the complexity of the image.
- Simply write a note at checkout requesting background removal.
4. Color Profiles
- Use the CMYK color profile for the most accurate and consistent results during printing.
- RGB files are also accepted, but note that colors may shift slightly during conversion to CMYK.
5. Ownership and Copyright
- Only upload artwork that you own or have permission to use. This includes logos, illustrations, and photographs.
- We cannot print copyrighted materials without proper authorization.
6. File Cleanup and Enhancements
- Thin lines or small text may not print clearly. If your design has intricate details, consider our Vector Service to refine your artwork.
- For vectorization or other adjustments, contact us directly or mention it in the notes at checkout.

Print methods
Print Methods: DTG, DTF, and Sublimation
Printers Choice By default, we select the best print method for your design and garment to ensure a high-quality result. If you’d like to choose a specific method, you can do so in the web app under "Print Methods" after selecting your garment, provided the garment supports your chosen method.
DTG (Direct to Garment)
DTG printing begins with preparing the garment for optimal results. The shirt is cleaned using a lint roller and treated with a bonding solution through a pretreatment machine. This step ensures the ink adheres effectively to the fabric.
The garment is then cured in an oven and pre-pressed to create a smooth surface for printing. Using a Brother GTX Pro printer, the design is applied directly onto the garment, and the printed item is cured in a conveyor oven to set the ink.
For more details, watch our DTG process video.
In Summary
- Best for: Most designs.
- Limitations: Works best on garments made of 80–100% cotton.
- Advantages: Produces a nice screen print look and feel.
DTF (Direct to Film)
DTF printing involves printing your design onto a specialized PET film. The design is coated with adhesive powder, cured using a conveyor oven, and then transferred to the garment using a heat press. After pressing, the film is peeled off, and the garment is pressed again to ensure proper curing.
DTF is suitable for all garment types but not all designs. It is not ideal for designs with heavy blending, shadows, semi-transparency, or large solid images without separation or knockouts.
In Summary
- Best for: Any garment, regardless of material.
- Limitations: Not suitable for designs with specific blending or transparency effects. Large solid images with no negative space will feel like a patch or sticker.
- Advantages: Vibrant colors, exceptional durability, and compatibility with a wide range of garments.
Sublimation
Sublimation printing uses a specialized transfer paper to apply designs. The image is transferred onto white polyester garments or ceramic, hard-surface sublimatable objects using a heat press or sublimation oven.
This method exclusively uses CMYK inks (no white), making it ideal for light-colored substrates. Sublimation provides vibrant, permanent designs on compatible materials.
In Summary
- Best for: White polyester garments and ceramic hard-surface sublimatable objects like mugs and tumblers.
- Limitations: Cannot be used on dark or non-polyester/sublimateable materials and fabrics.
- Advantages: Produces vibrant, long-lasting designs with seamless integration into the material.
By understanding the strengths and limitations of each print method, you can make the best choice for your project or let us do it for you by leaving it on the default setting Printers Choice!
